Easy Backup Management

Everybody knows how important it is to backup business data.
Losing accounts information, customer records, documents, databases or emails can range from being a nuisance to a full blown disaster that can potentially destroy a business.
Ideally, you’ll be backing up onto more than one tape or disk so that you can go back over several generations of backup in the event that you need to restore data. We generally recommend at least a 10 Tape Backup System; if you’re backing up to hard disk, then at least 3 disks is a good starting point.
Also, apart from ensuring that regular backups take place, it’s good practice to take backup tapes off-site; that way if your building is inaccessible after a fire or flood, you will be able to restore data from the off-site backup copy, even if you have to set up in alternative premises.
So how do you go about managing and maintaining a system like this?
All you need to do is download one of our free Tape Backup Calendars and a copy of our free Backup Log and print them out (print one Backup Log for each week).
How To Use The Backup Calendar
Let’s say you have a 10 tape system; this would mean your tapes are labelled as Monday 1 to Friday 1 and Monday 2 to Friday 2. Look on your Backup Calendar to find the current date and it will tell you which tape to put in for that night’s backup. That’s all there is to it!
How To Use The Backup Log
The Backup Log lets you record your backup history as well as keeping track of backup tapes that are taken off-site, who took them and who signed them back in to on-site storage.
You can get the backup calendars and backup log from our Downloads page, or use the links below.
